This was the last Biohazard album with Bobby Hambel, who left due to differences with the rest of the band. Hambel hung out in White Devil, also including members of the Cro-Mags, before seemingly leaving the music organization entirely. In late 1995, the band, in addition to Treatment? and Gunshot, contributed remixes to the Pitchshifter album.

It was produced with the aid of Dave Jerden. For the 199697 Mata Leao Tour, the band employed previous Helmet guitar player Rob Echeverria. The band also played on the Ozzfest mainstage alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, Danzig, Fear Factory, and Sepultura. While exploring Europe in support of the Mata Leao album, the band taped their Hamburg, Germany, show for their first live album, No Holds Barred (Reside In Europe), which was released in 1997 through their former label, Roadrunner Records.

The band signed to Mercury Records and launched their 5th studio album, New World Disorder, in 1999, when again with Ed Stasium as a producer. The relationship with Mercury Records soured rapidly as the band felt betrayed and misconstrued by the label.

In 2000, the band continued to visit Europe and Japan, without the support of a record label or management. In 2001, the band released a compilation album titled. The album consisted of different B-sides and remixes from different ages in the band's recording history. The album was released by the Phantom Sound & Vision label.

Leo Curley, of Overview and All Means Necessary, was worked with as his replacement. In the exact same year, Biohazard signed two new record deals with SPV/Steamhammer in Europe and Sanctuary Records for the rest of the world. In spite of the new record offers, the band took some individual time in order to deal with other projects.

After composing and tape-recording approximately twenty tunes for the task called Blu, Bair transferred to Los Angeles, California to continue an art career and the project liquified. Graziadei likewise began work on a book, Tales From The Hardside. Schuler used his downtime to perform with New york city band Among Burglars as a replacement drummer for the leaving Will Shepler.
